On a warm summer Thursday, a video producer from WFXT-TV 25 in Boston came to Lake Cochituate in Natick to spend the morning with participants from The Edinburg Center’s Meaningful Whole Life (MWL) program. The meeting was set up to prepare a story for the Channel 25 News about how people served by the program benefit from a day of fishing.
About two dozen participants in the MWL program were on hand, in addition to several staff members. MWL is a signature program of The Edinburg Center which encourages participants who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries to engage in activities driven by each person’s unique hopes and interests: activities that most people take for granted. The Fishing Club is among the program’s most popular activities. It’s not just fun, it also teaches patience and perseverance.
