Meet Amoge Owens: A Journey of Growth and Dedication

Amoge Owens’ story is one of remarkable growth and adaptability. Originally from Nigeria, Amoge began her career as a second-grade teacher before moving to the United States in 2016. Seeking to expand her horizons and contribute to her community in new ways, Amoge joined The Edinburg Center in 2018 as a relief staff member. From there, her journey in human services began, and she has since risen through the ranks at an impressive pace.

In 2019, Amoge became a Group Home Director and then quickly took on leadership roles, including Meaningful Whole Life Champion. The Edinburg Center supported Amoge while she returned to school for a Master of Social Work (MSW), and she interned as Adult Community Clinical Services Clinician. Having graduated with her MSW, Amoge now serves as the Director of the Developmental Disabilities Clinical Team and also co-chairs the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee. In each role, Amoge’s dedication and her passion for helping others have been evident. She credits the culture at The Edinburg Center for her success.

“The Edinburg Center offers a great work environment,” Amoge says. “Your hard work is seen and rewarded. It’s a diverse and welcoming community. When you work in an environment like the one at Edinburg Center, your best just flows—it’s made easy.”

Amoge also highlights that The Edinburg Center is dedicated to internal growth and career development. “They train you to advance and give you the tools to grow,” she adds. The opportunity to continuously learn, develop new skills, and take on new challenges has been key to Amoge’s journey.

When asked what she finds most rewarding about her work, Amoge shares, “The most rewarding thing about my job as a caregiver is making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Whether it’s offering support during tough times, building connections, creating positive change, or empowering individuals to overcome challenges, knowing that my work improves someone’s well-being is deeply fulfilling. It’s also rewarding to see the impact of my compassion and dedication in real-time.
